There must be no imposed peace in Ukraine, says Germany’s Scholz

BERLIN (Reuters) -There must be no imposed peace in Ukraine and any solution to the conflict must involve the United States, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with Politico released on Thursday but conducted a day earlier.

“It is very clear to me that there must be no solution that does not also involve the U.S.,” Scholz said.

“The next task is to ensure that there is no imposed peace,” he added.

U.S. President Donald Trump discussed the war in Ukraine on Wednesday in phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Politico said in a statement later that the interview was conducted on Wednesday morning, which would have been before the phone calls between Trump and Putin.
