Mongolia, China announce new railway link project

BEIJING (Reuters) – Mongolia and China agreed to construct a new cross-border railway link, according to a statement released by the Mongolian government on Friday.

Once operational, the railway link will increase coal transport capacity by 30 million tons, the statement said, adding that construction was expected to start in April 2025 and be completed in two and a half years.

The new strategic partnership agreement was announced by the Prime Minister of Mongolia L. Oyun-Erdene, who was visiting China’s northeastern city of Harbin.
