(Reuters) – Tesla’s sales volume in Germany nearly halved in April, German road traffic agency KBA said on Tuesday, even as sales of battery electric vehicles rose overall.
KBA said Tesla sold 885 cars in Germany in April, down 45.9% from a year earlier. The number of Teslas sold between January and April 2025 dropped 60.4% to 5,820 units, compared with the same period last year.
By contrast, the total number of newly registered electric vehicles increased by 53.5% in April compared with last year, KBA added.
Data showed last week that the automaker’s sales dropped for four straight months across much of Europe, as Europeans bought more Chinese EVs and some protest against CEO Elon Musk’s political views.
The German agency said sales volume of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD jumped more than eightfold to 1,566 units in April and rose almost fivefold to 2,791 units in total since the beginning of the year.
