MOSCOW (Reuters) -Oil processing at Russia’s Kuibyshevsk refinery, which is operated by the Rosneft oil company, has been halted since August 28 following Ukrainian drone attacks, two industry sources said.
According to the sources, the attack damaged both primary oil refining units at the refinery: CDU (crude distillation unit)-4 and CDU-5, each with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day (bpd).
In addition to the primary units some secondary refinery units were damaged.
According to the sources, the Kuibyshevsk refinery resumed oil refining on August 21, having completed a major overhaul that had been underway since July 1.
Rosneft did not immediately comment on a Reuters request.
The Kuibyshevsk refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara group of refineries, which also includes the Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries.
Currently, the Syzran oil refinery is also not operational, having stopped on August 15 due to drone damage. On August 2 the Novokuibyshevsk refinery was also attacked by drones.
The capacity of the Kuibyshevsk refinery is 7.0 million tons of oil per year, or some 140,000 barrels per day.
The Kuibyshevsk refinery processed 4.7 million metric tons of crude oil in 2024, produced 0.8 million tons of motor gasoline, 1.4 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of fuel oil, according to industry sources.
