India markets regulator proposes permitting advisors to show past performance

MUMBAI (Reuters) -India’s markets regulator on Thursday proposed that investment advisors and research analysts be allowed to provide proof of past performance to their clients.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India said it had received feedback that the present restrictions on advisors and analysts from advertising and providing past performance details limited their ability to serve clients.

It also proposed that clients be allowed to seek second opinion from a different advisor on assets and financial advice.
