Indian gaming company MPL halts money-based games after government ban

(Reuters) -Indian gaming company Mobile Premier League (MPL) said on Thursday it has suspended all money-based games on its platform in compliance with a government ban on online games played with money.

“Effective immediately, we are suspending all gaming offerings involving money on the MPL platform in India”, the company said in a statement.

India’s parliament on Thursday passed a bill to ban online games played with money in a move that threatens the survival of the popular fantasy gaming sector, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government flagged high financial risks.
