LONDON (Reuters) -The brother of British rock band Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher appeared in a London court on Wednesday, charged with offences including rape and coercive and controlling behaviour.
British police said last month they had charged Paul Gallagher, 59, with 11 offences, including three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill and one count of assault.
Gallagher appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where his lawyer said he would be pleading not guilty to the charges, which relate to a single complainant.
His law firm Carson Kaye Solicitors said in a statement last month: “Mr Gallagher has consistently engaged with the police throughout their investigation and always strongly denied the allegations made against him.
“He looks forward to clearing his name, but as there are now ongoing legal proceedings our client is unable to comment further.”
Paul Gallagher has never had a role in Oasis, the Manchester band which achieved international stardom in the mid-1990s.
The group split in 2009 after several public spats between lead guitarist and main songwriter Noel and frontman Liam, but reunited for a long-awaited reunion tour which began last month.
